Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease and the causes are complex, susceptibility is influenced by environmental and genetic factors. Risk factors for female breast cancer include early menopause, late menarche, late delivery, obesity, a high-fat diet, oral contraceptives and other exogenous estrogens, age, environmental toxins, and alcohol and cigarette consumption.

An important part of breast health is knowing how they normally look and feel. Although regular breast cancer screening is important, mammograms do not diagnose all breast cancers. This means that it is also important to watch for changes in your breasts and to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

Signs and Symptoms

Among the first symptoms of breast cancer is a new mass or lump. A painless, hard mass with irregular borders is more likely to be cancer, although cancerous breast growths can also be tender, soft, and round in shape. They can also cause pain. For this reason, it is important to have any new masses, lumps, or changes in the breasts examined by an experienced health professional.

If you notice any of the symptoms, contact a health professional.

Treatments

Treatment plans are usually based on the type of breast cancer, its stage, and any special situations.
Most women will have some type of surgery to remove the tumor. Depending on the type of breast cancer and how advanced it is, you may also need other types of treatment, either before or after surgery, or sometimes both.

Targeted Cancer Treatment

Minimally invasive ablation techniques have the goal of achieving similar results to breast-conserving therapy, but with fewer side effects, shorter hospital stays, and better cosmetic results.
Techniques used include cryoablation, microwave ablation, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and irreversible electroporation.

Thermal ablation is primarily used for the treatment of small, unresectable tumors, for patients who have been resistant to chemo/radiotherapy treatment or who are NOT surgical candidates, such as:

  • Obese patients
  • Patients with chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, cirrhosis, etc.)
  • Patients who cannot have general anesthesia
  • Patients with severe heart disease
